I felt really sad when I read this because I know what it is like to be in pain. When I had my wisdom teeth removed it was so painful I had to get a prescription pain killer. The idea of needing them for years is horrible.

There is a legal punishment for the pharmacist to fill a RX illegally. Please see the last sentence.
Fines, jail time, loss of license and job. Who will hire an ex-con? What if this is a new graduate with a large amount of federal student loans?

http://lindonlaw.com/Corresponding%20Responsibility%20of%20the%20Pharmacist.pdf
Rule 4729-5-21 and Rule 4729-5-30
(A) A prescription, to be valid, must be issued for a legitimate medical purpose by an
individual prescriber acting in the usual course of his/her professional practice. The responsibility for the proper prescribing is upon the prescriber, but a corresponding responsibility rests with the pharmacist who dispenses the prescription. An order purporting to be a prescription issued not in the usual course of bona fide treatment of a patient is not a prescription and the person knowingly dispensing such a purported prescription, as well as the person issuing it, shall be subject to the penalties of law.

Sadly, Florida has way too many pharmacists who have filled RX improperly and gotten in trouble.
